If you have a passion for clay modeling and are looking into making your own clay, here is the place to look. The reason for this article is the exposition of your mind into the ways of making clay. Of course, it is about that, but is it the kind of clay you get to scoop off the roads and play with? The red earth kind? The answer is no, but you get to make clay from food. Some people might find this distinctly incredulous. However, this method allows you to make clay from ordinary materials you can get from your normal food stores. These kinds of clay can last for a very long time if you keep it in a cool dry place where there is an airtight mechanism that allows it to last a lot longer.

Another advantage of making clay from this method is that unlike the other forms of clay that have to be kiln dried or machine dried, this form doesn’t need to have that. However, it would be required to air dried. This can be used to achieve the green clay look some of us usually pine for. This is also advantageous, considering the cost of fuel you would have incurred if you were working with the ordinary clay models which need to be machine dried. Another advantage: this kind of clay is not age-specific: this means that people of any age – old, young – can play wit4h and make things out of it! You are going to see a couple of steps to getting your first clay sample in a few minutes;

The first step;

First of course, you would need to get out your shopping bag and go shop for the needed ingredients. However, you might already have some of the ingredients at home hiding under the guise of harmless food items. Here are some of the things you would need to make your own clay!

At least three and a half servings of general purpose flour

Half a cup of salt
AS table spoon of cream or tarter would also be required

Two and a half tablespoons of oil
And two cups of water. Definitely, this is not all, since you can add more to this, and make some more items. You can also divide the items as you wish.

Have you gotten those entire ready then it is time to go for the tools of the trade. These are the essential hardware you would need to convert these ordinary food items into your own clay.

First of all, you would need something to boil water. A large pot or a kettle maybe, would do for this purpose. Also, you would need a bowl that would help you in mixing all these things into a large paste. Therefore, if you already have a large mixing bowl or a close substitute, then you do not need to worry further about this item. You would also need a wooden spoon that would aid in mixing the whole items into a large paste for easy working of the paste when you are ready to get down to business. Remember the old-fashioned sheet you normally and ordinarily use for making your harmless fun cookies? Well, they would also come in handy for this! After you have gotten these together, then next step would be to get the items that make your clay beautiful. Of course, these are quite optional. And it actually depends on your preference and taste. Here are some of the items.

You might need some food coloring, which is used to color your clay, and this transforms it from its ordinarily whitish appearance toe a wide range of colors depending on the colors you have and how much you let your imagination have its way. Also, paint would also be used toe apply a few finishing touches to the clay when it has eventually set from the air drying process. A couple of carving tools, to edit and reshape some maladjusted edges and to make a couple of impressions would also be needed if you like. A cookie cutter, much like that normal and ordinary cookie cutter would also come in handy. A large needle to make fine punctures at the appropriate places would also be fine for the job. This is just a personal list; do not let it in any way limit your choice of items to make your clay. Thereafter some ideas that would come to mind when you think long and hard enough.

Finally, it is essentially a mixture of the parts mentioned above that gives you the resultant clay. Work on it as you would the normal rocky type, and transform it into many other things!
