How To Set Up A Linksys Router?

Among the commonest router brand names on the market is the Linksys router. Step 1:

Connect the computer to an Ethernet port on the router.

Step 2:

Connect the power adapter from the router to a power source and connect the other end to the power port on the router.

NOTE: If the router has a power switch, turn it on. Observe the power light on the router until it is stable.

Step 3:

Access the web page of the router configuration by opening a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Safari. In the Address bar, enter the local IP address of the router and then press [Enter]. When the login screen comes, enter the Username and Password for the router.

NOTE: The default IP address of the Linksys router is “192.168.1.1″, while the default password is “admin” and the user name field is left blank. If you have forgotten your old password, you must restart the device.

Step 4:

Set your Internet connection type preferred:

  • Configuration for PPPoE
  • DHCP auto-configuration

Configuration for PPPoE

This configuration of the router is ideal for connecting to a modem that is in bridge mode. With a bridge mode you must have a PPPoE dialler installed on a computer or router to enable connectivity to the Internet.

  • Step 1:

In the Setup tab (Settings), click the down arrow to select type of Internet connection, and then select PPPoE.

  • Step 2:

Enter the Username and Password for PPPoE as your ISP has provided. Select Keep Alive (Keep the connection) and click on Save Settings (Save Settings) at the end of the page.

NOTE: For information about the User Name and Password for PPPoE, contact your ISP.

  • Step 3:

Click the Status tab (State).

  • Step 4:

On the flip state, click Connect, if the login status is offline.

NOTE: If the State does not appear flap Internet IP address and DNS servers, you may need to turn off and back on the router. This is done by disconnecting the adapter from the router for 30 seconds and plugging it once again.

DHCP auto-configuration

This configuration of the router is ideal for connecting to a modem in PPPoE mode. This means that the modem may also have enabled the ability to router. This may create a conflict with the operation of the router route if the IP address of the modem and the router is the same. To resolve this problem, you can change the IP address range of the router to avoid conflict

NOTE: Make sure the modem is not connected to the router while performing the steps below. Otherwise, can you may finish accessing the configuration web page of the modem.

Step 1:

In the Configuration tab, select Automatic Configuration - DHCP type Internet connection. Then change the value of the third box on the IP Address field.

Step 2:

Click Save Settings.

Once you have configured the router settings, you can connect the modem to the Internet port of the router using an Ethernet cable.

After performing these steps, you have configured the Linksys router for DSL Internet connection.
